didn't get baptized... 😩 the guy fasted for a full 48 hours! And he
didn't get "the answer he's waiting for." Sometimes I wonder if he's
expecting the First Vision! But he hasn't lost faith, and neither have
we! He has a desire to receive the priesthood and to be sealed to his
family, but doesn't have the faith to move forward yet. So please keep
him in your prayers! With the power of your prayers, our prayers, and
the ward's prayers, we can see this miracle happen!
Wednesday, we had the chance to be in charge of the young women
activity! We decided that we wanted to teach the girls how to read the
Book of Mormon and receive revelation just like I challenged you to do
last week! We also wanted to focus on divine nature and how that ties
in to missionary work. Based off of our previous experience of
teaching a lesson to the YW last month, I wasn't expecting much
participation at all. The Book of Mormon changes lives! We ended up
with an incredible discussion about how these young women's questions
were answered as well as what struggles they face as girls living in
this world. The Spirit was undeniably strong and present! I could see
how their faith was increasing as well as their testimonIes! We
received amazing feedback about the activity, including the comment
that they hadn't felt the spirit that strongly since girl's camp!
🎉what an amazing opportunity to be a part of that night for them!
What an amazing ward I get to serve in!
So this week, we went to a funeral, which is never fun. There was a
couple that we had met at the live nativity a few weeks ago. They are
great friends with a couple in our ward who they say has been trying
to convert them for years! Haha anyway we had had a great conversation
with them that night, and I was so excited to see them again. Well on
January 2nd, she was out jogging, and as she was crossing the street,
she was hit by a truck! She would have been 60 years old this year. It
kinda rocked the whole community, she was quite well known. Her
funeral was at the United Church, but they had to broadcast it into
the community center because there were so many people! This woman did
some pretty incredible things! Including sailing on a sailboat around
the world in 7 months with her whole family! 😳 it's insane! But she
was kind to everyone she knew and loved her husband so much. I was
pretty shocked because the pastor of the United Church didn't even
mention Jesus Christ until he was praying! There was no consolation of
where she is, no doctrine, no spiritual message until right at the
end! It made me so sad because obviously there are people who are
struggling, and I pray that Sister P and I can find those
people! One day, her husband will turn to his member friends and then
we can be right there for him!
Funny story! We were teaching a less active's son, M, and he
just turned 8 last week. He's autistic so teaching him has been
interesting! Haha but we decided to talk to him about baptism! He was
nodding his head, totally into it, until we mentioned going under
water.... "no way! I'm not going under water!" 😂 we had no clue what
to say! His mom started talking about practicing, we showed a video of
Jesus being baptized, but there was no convincing him! Even bribes to
practice in the swimming pool didn't work! So we decided that maybe
after he sees his friends get baptized, he'll change his mind! 😂
My subject line goes along with a story that happened last night! We
were setting up appointments for Bentley and Rimbey when all of a
sudden, I saw a name on the ward list that I've never seen before. In
fact, I searched this last name on Sunday and got nothing! So we call
this guy, and it turns out to be a guy who has been less active since
childhood, and he lives out of his semi truck! How did it we find this
guy?? We asked him about his life and his experiences with the church.
He had his phone connected through bluetooth to his truck, and the
only other person he talks to is his girlfriend. So to say he was
excited to talk to someone else is an understatement! He talked to us
for an hour! Every time we tried to get him off, he would start on
another story! Haha but good news! He is going to be in Red Deer this
weekend so we got him to consider coming to church so we can meet him!
I pray that he does cause I'm dying to meet this guy! Haha
Update on P! I love this dear Ukrainian woman more than I can
express! But man she is hard to teach! After 82 years of life, she's
pretty set in her ways! But I can already picture what an incredible
Latter-day Saint she will be! We're trying to get her to read the Book
of Mormon because this book is the key to conversion! So please pray
for her! We'll need a miracle with this one! But P is definitely
not just an investigator to me, she is my lifelong friend! I cannot
wait for you guys to meet her!
I'll close with one more funny story! So my roommate, Q had her
open house on Saturday. Their family has two dogs, a wiener dog and
the hairiest, fattest yellow lab in the world. Both dogs are really
sweet, but a little much for when company is coming over. We were
helping Sister C set up, and she asked us to run an errand for
her! One of the other ward members had dog tranquilizer pills for
events like this, so we needed to go pick them up! 😂 we showed up at
the members house and said, "we're here for the drugs!" 😂😂😂
probably my most unique door approach! We were laughing so hard! The
dogs got their happy pills right before the open house started, but
they didn't make them fall asleep! Instead, they were walking around
like 2 drunk sailors! Laughter could not be contained!
Well all drug door approaches aside, I seriously love my life! I have
the greatest companion, I have the most supportive ward, and I have a
testimony of the Restored gospel that I get to share with others!
Although it's been the farthest from easy, it's been beyond worth it.
Have the best week of your lives! I love you!!
